Hello!

As it's such a gloriously sunny day and the beginning of a monsterous four day weekend, DJ Smalley has put together this little mix for your listening pleasures.

It's a little 60 minute mix of pure un-adulterated house music from back when it all began (according to Smalley's dusty vinyl collection anyway) and every track in this mix comes from the years 1986-1989. It includes some monster tracks such as the inspirational 'Phase II - Reachin' and the ultra-rare 'Ce Ce Rogers - Someday' record that used to sell for over £100 just 10 years ago.

Nowadays of course, you can download tracks like these for free or listen to them on youtube - but it is an interesting thought to think that the only way you could possibly hear a track like 'Someday' 10 years ago, was to pay £100 for it as a DJ - or go and see one of the very rare DJ's who was likely to play it. I personally think that this is one little way that the rise of digital music has killed the magic of old, but of course it has opened many other doors of opportunity so it has to be embraced rather than feared.

So, we hope you enjoy the mix and if you want to hear a bit of this played out, you can catch DJ Smalley playing alongside Swindon Invincible honcho Vinz M and Cybernetic all day long in Longsbar on Bank Holiday Sunday May 1st. We'll be playing a mixture of house, funk, jazz, hiphop, reggae, disco and anything goes underground drinking music all day long, it's free to get in and there's even free BBQ food from 4pm!

Actually, while i'm here, I thought i'd also ramble on about some very exciting little musical happenings around the town, as I have space to fill on this page and there's a few interesting things worth mentioning.

Firstly, just wanted to mention the wonderfully crafted Honeyfest last week that was enjoyed by all - who would have thought that a little country pub in Pewsey could attract the likes of folky legends Damien Rice, Laura Marling and the Magic Numbers to play to an intimate country-people crowd drinking green cider? We certainly didn't but were lucky enough to snap up one of the 1,000 tickets and check it out. One to look out for in 2012 we think.

Then, the new MECA venue is starting to find it's feet with some great acts and live shows coming up - including this Nitelife spectacular this sunday night with Annie Mac, Plump DJ's and one of my favourite DJ's at the moment Benji Boko. Plenty more to come from the M.E.C.A. as they get themselves established in the live music circles and this is always going to mean good things for Swindon in the coming months and years.

Then, even more excitingly, the Swindon Invincible team have just announced the date for this years 2011 festival - it's back to one day this year on Saturday August 20th, but as it's been improving year on year, you can expect it to be even bigger, better and badder than last years amazing festival. Plenty of announcements to come from them over the coming weeks I'm sure.
